Our four core strands of work

How the four strands tie together

SYNTHESYS funding is allows scientists based in European Member and Associated States to undertake short visits to utilize collections, staff expertise, and analytical facilities at one of the 21 partner institutions for the purposes of their research.

Call 2 is now live and closes 26 March

For the first time in the SYNTHESYS programme, users will be able to request Virtual Access to collections. Participating institutions will digitise collections according to community demand and data will be made openly available. 

Call 1 is live. Proposers must contact the relevant VA Coordinator on 2 April, the Call closes on 30 April 2020.

SYNTHESYS+ will develop new collections services and technologies for researchers around the world. Projects include the development of digital collections infrastructure, and applying artificial intelligence to speed up processes that make collections digitally available. 

About our Research Activities

The SYNTHESYS+ Network activities will support and develop the infrastructure of natural history collections across Europe. These activities will provide foundations for DiSSCo, a major pan-European collections infrastructure and access initiative.
